5 Ways to Instantly Increase Your Happiness

5 ways to instantly increase your happiness

Happiness is arguably one of the most misunderstood concepts in our society. People think that having money, fame, big houses, and nice cars will bring them happiness…but that is FAR from the truth. Today, I want to give you 5 things that you can do instantly to increase your happiness. And guess what. None of them have to do with making more money, furthering your business, or getting further ahead in your career.

5 Ways to Instantly Increase Your Happiness

1) Thank someone for something they did for you recently

Research shows that gratitude makes up happy. Simply appreciating what we have in life, instead of focusing on what we don’t have, makes us happier. It shifts our mindset from one of lack to one of abundance.

Let’s be real, our lives are pretty good. Let’s share the love and show some gratitude for other in our lives.

2) Write down 3 good things that happened to you and savor each one

This relates to number one. Gratitude matters people! Let’s make it a habit :)

3) Do something to brighten a stranger’s day

Research shows that giving makes us happier than getting (don’t get me wrong, getting is pretty great too). When we give to others and do something bigger than ourselves, it feels good! It feels good to give back and know that we’ve done something to make someone else feel good.

4) Tell someone three reasons you care about them

People with better personal relationships are happier. Telling someone that you care about them not only strengthens your relationship, but it also makes someone else feel good and therefore happier. It’s a win-win.

5) Take ten minutes to have a meaningful conversation with someone you care about

This relates to #4. Having a meaningful conversation with someone close to us strengthens our bond with that person. It makes us feel connected, and therefore happier.

There are SO many things that we can do instantly to make us happy. What are some things that you do to keep yourself happy?

I love the idea of trying to brighten a stranger’s day. I think those random acts of kindness are as close as we can get to doing things purely for others, though we’re still likely to get that warm, fuzzy, feeling. Great work!

  • I loved this list. It is amazing how showing and doing something nice for someone else makes you so happy. Isn’t it interesting how it works? Thanks for this amazing post.:)

I agree with number 3. A month or so ago I was in a horrible mood. I stopped at Wendy’s and the guy in front of me in the drive through paid for me and my daughters food and told the cashier to tell us Merry Christmas. It instantly brightened my mood. So I paid for the car behind me!

Great list Nicole! I have a tab on my spreadsheet (of all things important) where I list out all my blessings – people and things that I am thankful for. I find that if I’m going through a rough patch it helps to read through my list and really concentrate on each thing as I go through them. Thanks for sharing! 😀
