5 Simple Tips for Getting Started With Meditation

5 simple tips to getting started with meditation

Hey guys. Sorry, but it’s time for a wake-up call: if you don’t have a meditation routine yet, you HAVE to get one!

Here’s why.

5 Major Benefits of Meditation:

  1. Helps reduce stress levels
  2. Increases positive emotions & life satisfaction
  3. Reduces loneliness and increases connectedness
  4. Increases memory, focus, and attention span
  5. Decreases feelings of anxiety and depression

And SO much more!

The crazy thing about it is that most people know that meditation is good for them, but they still haven’t adopted a meditation practice yet. Many people either think meditation is too hard, “don’t have time,” or just haven’t made it a priority yet.

Well today is the day is to make the change. So without further ado, here are 5 simple tips for getting started with meditation!

1. Schedule it!

I mean it. Put it on your calendar, just as you do your doctors appointments! And do it NOW :) As Ben Franklin once said,

2. Choose your environment

5 simple tips for getting started with meditation

You’re ideally going to want to pick a quiet area that is free of distractions. You may choose to sit outside or inside- anywhere you are relaxed and feel comfortable sitting in silence.

3. Get your props ready

If you’re doing a seated meditation, you may want to use a pillow or a meditation cushion, such as this one from Amazon (if you purchase from this link, I will receive a small commission from Amazon :) )

If you’re doing a lying meditation, you may want to lay on a yoga mat (don’t forget a blanket if it’s cold).

If you’re a beginner, you may also want to listen to meditation music or a guided meditation.

Or, if you are ready for complete silence, you can use one of my meditation timers. There are 30, 20, 15, 10, and 5-minute options currently available on my YouTube playlist.

4. Close your eyes

Once you are all comfortable and ready for relaxation, simply close your eyes.

5. Take a few deep breaths then…

JUST DO IT! :) You’ve got nothing to lose.

Hope this helps. Comment below letting me know how your session went! I’d love to hear from you!

I really like that you included to schedule it. It’s sad that we have to take time to relax these days!

Totally agree! It’s INSANE that we have to schedule relax time, but unfortunately if we don’t schedule it just doesn’t happen. Thanks for stopping by! LOVE the graphics on your blog btw. They’re awesome!

  • See music never worked for me. It’s too distracting. Enjoying the peace and quiet is for me the best way to meditate :)

That’s great! Whatever works for you :) I really like music, but I do quiet meditations as well- really depends on my mood.
